As shown in the above diagram, the Mix Effects system has a 5 x 22 matrix, plus there is a 6th video layer downstream. The 5 layers of video in the Mix Effects system are program (background video), preview (foreground video), and three layers of key. These 5 can be filled with sources from both the 8 traditional video (BNC) inputs in the Break-out-Box and the 14 computer video inputs (7 video and key pairs) in the workstation. After the video is combined in the Mix Effects system, a 6th video layer (key 4) is applied downstream in the Break-out-Box.
The matrix also has 4 Auxiliary outputs, supports recording of clips, capturing of on-air freeze frames, and "Look Ahead Preview" for previewing a transition on the preview monitor. All 8 video inputs can be SDI, and 4 can be analog composite, Y/C or component. The 8 can be expanded for more SDI or analog inputs with an optional integrated router. The Program and Preview outputs are both SDI and analog. The computer video can enter the system via the network, CD, DVD, memory stick, or be created on the system's Inscriber graphics system.
